About the project

This extensive internal renovation transformed a family home, creating modern, open spaces designed for their family of young children to grow up in.

The project began with a laundry renovation but quickly expanded into a major structural transformation. A 6m sliding door opening was introduced by removing existing windows and doors, requiring the entire second storey to be propped up—both internally for the timber frame and externally for the brickwork—while a large steel beam was installed for structural support. Two additional external sliding doors, a new kitchen, and a refreshed dining area further elevated the home’s functionality and style.

One of the most remarkable spaces was the luxurious ensuite renovation, which is the largest bathroom we have done. The design embraced the room’s generous proportions with a huge timber vanity, freestanding bath, and an expansive open double shower, creating a spa-like retreat.

This project came with its challenges, particularly in the structural work required to prop up an entire storey and its external brickwork to install the steel beam. The beam posts had to be anchored deep into the subfloor to ensure long-term stability, and careful sequencing was necessary, as all downstairs structural work had to be completed before progressing to the upstairs ensuite renovation.

The result is a stunningly updated family home, designed for both everyday living and entertaining. The new kitchen and dining area offer a fresh, modern aesthetic, while the massive sliding door opening now frames breathtaking western sunset views over the escarpment—a true highlight of the home.
